If you want to see some of the sources used in this family compilation, please use the menu tab above. Wherever possible, I avoid linking to sites that have a pay wall, and I don't recommend them. So many public records are easily available, there's no need to pay to see your own family records.

Mi'kma'ki is what the Original peoples call our homeland and historic, traditional territory, also known as the Canadian Maritimes and includes parts of Quebec. Since this site uses words in the Mi'kmaw language - Mikmawisimk - that some would be unfamiliar with, I will be working on a short vocabulary word list. Mi'kma'ki has never been sold, given away, or ceded by the Original peoples, the treaties made were not land cessions or submission, they were Peace and Friendship treaties.
Please note, not all individuals and families on this site identify as, nor are they identified by others, as Mi'kmaq descendants, having as ancestors the Original peoples of Mi'kma'ki, who were known to the French as Souriquois and to the English as Micmac Indians. The term 'Absentee Mi'kmaq' is used here for family branches in which individuals may have self-identified as Mi'kmaw, but migrated away during the Mi'kmaq diaspora (c 1850 to c 1890), or a descendant who was not born on and never lived on the historic, traditional territory.

Please note, the use of the word "tribe" in this blog is the traditional one, it is used to
describe a group descendant from a male ancestor and his sons, it is not used as a substitute
word for "nation".
